Chairperson of the Taiwan Art Gallery
Association and the main organizer of the event, Ching-Hsin Chung, specifically
extends appreciations to various important entities that gave their support in
her opening remarks. These include: the Ministry of Culture’s support for the ‘Made
in Taiwan— Taiwan Young
Artists Connection with the World” exhibition over the dozen of years, sparing
no effort in the cultivation of young artists; the support given by the Taiwan
External Trade Development Council in terms of venue and administration over
the years; the Ministry of Education in continuing its collaboration with ART
TAIPEI, and surpassing the scale of collaboration of past years to allow over
800 high school and elementary school teachers and students from around Taiwan
to participate in the highly meaningful art education day activities; the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs which has assisted in the management of
international media and invitation of foreign representative from embassies and
missions in Taiwan; the Tourism Bureau, MOTC in terms of providing and
assisting in advertising the event, as well as listing the exhibition as an
event of international level in the annual Taiwan tourism calendar; the

other departments and units.
This important exhibition that has stood tall
in Asia-Pacific for the past quarter of a century has, this year, gathered 135
top quality art galleries from 13 different countries around the globe, with
works that span classic masters, artists in the middle of their careers, to the
young and the upcoming. Art categories cover oil painting, sculpture, painting,
installation, video art, photography and others. This year, in response with
the theme of “Indefinite Museum”, a special collection of art museum was
established, where exciting works collected by the Museum of Contemporary Art,
Taiwan, Yu-Hsiu Museum of Art, Hong-gah Museum and Yo-chang Art Museum are
displayed. In addition, to extend on the high degree of attention drawn by last
year’s artists of the previous generation exhibition, the "Resonance.Loop - Art in Post-war Taiwan" exhibition has been
curated. There is also the technology exhibition of “The Enigmatic Museum” and
the “Window to Video Art” Collection Exhibition calls on the Taiwan
collector association. Public installation art can also be found scattered
around the exhibition, while the Xue Xue Foundation special charity exhibition,
the Isabelle Wen concept exhibition that combines fashion with art, and the MIT
- Taiwan Young Artists Connection with the World, all provide the exhibition
with a richer and more diverse look.
The
academic presentations this year are in the forms of 4 art forums, 4 art
lectures, and 11 art salons, to bring the art audience at large art exploration
and exchange with global perspectives, where the idea of “academic first, then
market” is also placed into the events. The exhibition is also collaborating
with Taiwan High Speed Rail once more, to raise awareness and popularize art
appreciation, by issuing joint HSR-ART TAIPEI tickets that is available
nationwide through the 7-11 ibon platform. The VIP collector service that was
active in these past two years also demonstrates the importance ART TAIPEI
places on the collectors.
As ART TAIPEI heads into its 25th
anniversary, all the while richly cultivating Taiwan
and introducing global perspectives, the event is of special significance for
the art industry not just in Taiwan,
but the Asian-Pacific region. In the past decades, countless artists,
collectors and art workers have risen from the environment provided by ART
TAIPEI; through the support and working hand-in-hand with the media and public
that are passionate about art and are appreciative of aesthetics, new ideas and
perspectives are constantly being injected into the event. This has allowed ART
TAIPEI and the art collective at large to flourish and prosper together, making
it a place of convergence for the artistic spirit. All these had been hard to
come by, and we hope that ART TAIPEI will continue to bring exciting,
innovative exchanges and can also bridge the commercial side with the academic
aspect, and allow the erection of a beautiful indefinite museum in the heart of
everyone.
